My, my, how the tables have turned. After years of flooding Spanish beaches, resorts, restaurants and holiday rentals, it seems locals have grown tired of the boozy British invasion. Well, the influx of tourists in general, to be fair – I haven’t seen alcohol abuse named as a primary concern in reports, though it isthat have emerged from protests against mass tourism, it would be rich not to apportion quite a bit of the blame on those of us who hail from the UK.
Mainland Spain has seen similar fury too. In recent weeks, unsuspecting tourists found themselves targets of local ire, with some brandishing water pistols to drive home their point: for now at least, unbridled tourism is not welcome.
