SpaceX is preparing for a historic double moon landing mission, with two private lunar landers set to launch early Wednesday morning. Both landers, Blue Ghost and Resilience, will carry out scientific experiments and demonstrate the increasing accessibility of lunar exploration.

SpaceX is gearing up for a double moon landing mission early Wednesday morning (Jan. 15), with two private lunar landers set to blast off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The liftoff is scheduled for 1:11 a.m. EST (0611 GMT). These landers, built by Firefly Aerospace and Tokyo-based ispace respectively, will embark on a 16-day journey to the moon. The first lander, named Blue Ghost, will spend four days in lunar orbit before attempting to land in Mare Crisium ('Sea of Crises').

Once on the surface, Blue Ghost will operate for two weeks, collecting valuable data before nightfall at its landing site brings the solar-powered mission to a close. Following closely behind is Resilience, the second lunar lander ispace has sent to the moon. Resilience will take a more leisurely route, expected to land in the Mare Frigoris ('Sea of Cold') region four to five months after launch. This lander carries a microrover named Tenacious, tasked with collecting a sample of lunar dirt and rock. This double moon launch is just one of SpaceX's ambitious endeavors for Wednesday. The company also plans to launch the seventh test flight of its Starship spacecraft at 5:00 p.m. EST (2200 GMT). This highly anticipated test will be closely watched by space enthusiasts worldwide. Both launches will be webcast live, allowing viewers to witness these historic events unfold. SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of space exploration, demonstrating its commitment to advancing humanity's understanding of the cosmos.
