SpaceX celebrates a significant milestone with the 400th landing of an orbital-class rocket, demonstrating its expertise in reusable space technology. The achievement comes after the successful launch of 27 Starlink satellites from California.

The first stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket landed gracefully on the deck of a drone ship shortly after launching 27 Starlink satellites from California on January 21, 2025. This momentous event marked SpaceX's 400th landing of an orbital-class rocket, a testament to the company's remarkable proficiency in reusable space technology . SpaceX has made pinpoint touchdowns commonplace, pulling them off hundreds of times to date.

In fact, Tuesday's success brought the number of its orbital-class rocket landings to an even 400.The vast majority of these touchdowns have been achieved by the Falcon 9, SpaceX's workhorse rocket. The company re-flies Falcon 9 boosters repeatedly. One first stage, for instance, holds the record for the most flights, having touched down for a staggering 23rd time. This impressive feat highlights SpaceX's commitment to efficiency and sustainability in space exploration. SpaceX also operates the Falcon Heavy, a more powerful rocket, which is capable of three landings on a single mission. However, the Falcon Heavy has only flown 11 times to date.SpaceX is continuously pushing the boundaries of space technology with its ambitious projects, such as the Starship. This fully reusable megarocket, under development, aims to facilitate humanity's settlement on the moon and Mars. The upper stages of both the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy are expendable, while the Starship, with its ability to land and be reused, represents a significant leap forward in space travel. The 403.5-foot-tall (123 meters) Starship has launched on seven suborbital test flights, most recently on January 16. This mission featured a dramatic recovery, being snagged by the 'chopstick' arms of its launch tower at Starbase, in South Texas. It was the second time SpaceX had pulled off this feat; they also achieved it during Starship Flight 5 in November
