The launch of SpaceX's Crew-10 mission has been postponed, resulting in an extended stay for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams aboard the International Space Station. Technical issues during their initial launch on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft led to a prolonged mission, now overlapping with Crew-9.
NASA has announced a delay in the SpaceX Crew-10 launch, extending the stay of astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams aboard the International Space Station . Williams and Wilmore, who initially launched in June for a week-long mission on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, experienced technical issues en route, forcing NASA to postpone their return.
Their trip has since stretched into a monthslong assignment, as they joined Crew-9, a routine space station mission planned to return to Earth no earlier than February. Crew-10's launch is now delayed at least a month due to the need for NASA and SpaceX teams to process a new Dragon spacecraft. NASA states that launching Crew-10 in late March is the optimal choice to meet agency requirements and space station objectives for 2025. The Crew-9 mission, including NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, arrived at the station in September. Williams and Wilmore have spent over six months on the station and will have accumulated roughly nine months in space if they return in late March or early April. Routine missions to the International Space Station typically last six months, but astronauts often receive unexpected extensions to their stay for varying durations
