Elon Musk's Texas-based space company has sued the California Coastal Commission over its rejection of a plan to increase SpaceX launches from the state.
Elon Musk ’s SpaceX has sued the California Coastal Commission in federal court, accusing the state agency of overreach and free speech violations. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the Central District of California, came a few days after the commission, which regulates land and water use in the state’s coastal zone, rejected an Air Force plan to let SpaceX launch up to 50 Falcon 9 rockets a year from Vandenberg Space Force Base , about 150 miles north of Los Angeles .

However, the service and SpaceX say Falcon 9 launch operations are a federal program not subject to such permitting requirements.
