The Russian Soyuz spacecraft safely returned astronauts to Earth near Karaganda, Kazakhstan.

Novitskiy, Vasilevskaya, and NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson launched from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on March 23 aboard a separate Soyuz spacecraft., carrying NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara, Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, and Belarusian spaceflight participant Marina Vasilevskaya, landed near Karaganda, Kazakhstan at 3:17 am EDT .

Among the crew, O’Hara and Vasilevskaya were embarking on their inaugural space missions. Novitskiy had already completed three long-duration missions aboard the ISS: Expeditions 33/34 in 2012-13, Expeditions 50/51 in 2016-17, and Expeditions 64/65 in 2021. from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome on March 23 aboard a separate Soyuz spacecraft. This launch followed a rare Soyuz rocket abort just two days prior, caused by a swiftly resolved battery issue.

In support of NASA’s Artemis campaign, O’Hara’s mission contributed to the preparation for lunar exploration and laid the groundwork for future manned missions to Mars. O’Hara conducted various scientific activities aboard the space station throughout her journey. This journey spanned approximately 3,264 orbits around the Earth, covering over 86.5 million miles.

“I’m overwhelmed with emotions. It’s something incredible. I wish all people on Earth to treasure and cherish what they have because it is precious. We wanted to stay longer, but it is great to be back,” Vasilevskaya said upon exiting the Soyuz capsule.
