SOWETAN | This year, Workers’ Day was marked amid unprecedented high levels of unemployment, rising cost of living, dependency on the state for social grants and growing inequality.
Yesterday, millions of workers across the globe observed and celebrated the strength and value of their labour that has contributed to the development of many nations.
Workers’ Day has been observed internationally on May 1s since 1891. In SA, it has its own significance with the history of labour and the fight against apartheid.
