Around 350 flights were canceled by the airline on October 11, after almost 2,000 flights were canceled over the weekend.
In a statement at the weekend, the airline blamed the cancellations and delays on air traffic control issues and weather."ATC issues and disruptive weather have resulted in a high volume of cancellations throughout the weekend while we work to recover our operation," Southwest Airlines said on"We appreciate your patience as we accommodate affected Customers, and Customer Service wait times are longer than usual.
The tweet didn't mention Southwest Airlines, but added:"Flight delays & cancellations occurred for a few hours Friday PM due to widespread severe weather, military training, & limited staffing in one area of the Jacksonville en route center. Some airlines continue to experience scheduling challenges due to aircraft and crews being out of place.
"Our operation and our frontline employees have endured continuous and unending disruptions since the first time our airline made headlines in early June due to widespread IT failures. Our Pilots are tired and frustrated because our operation is running on empty due to a lack of support from the Company."A Southwest Airlines baggage handler loads luggage on the tarmac at Hollywood Burbank Airport in Burbank, California, October 10, 2021.
