Southtown 101 is gathering support for the family of Jose Chavez III, the watering hole's beloved barback and bartender who died last week in a motorcycle crash. Chavez, known by loved ones as Joey , collided with an SUV around 2:20 p.m. Oct. 15 while riding a mini motorcycle on the East Side , according to a preliminary report from San Antonio police.

His mother, Cecilia Chavez, wrote on social media that she believed the crash was an accident and that no one was to blame.

In an email to the Express-News, the bar called him 'a bright young genuine soul.'
