South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell will be sidelined for another month with a calf injury, which officially rules him out of Origin III
South Sydney hope setting an ultra-conservative date for Latrell Mitchell’s return from a calf injury will have him physically ready to repeat last year’s stunning run to the NRL finals.
Now Mitchell, who withdrew from the NSW squad twice this year because of his calf issue, will be back for the last six games before the finals. “It gives us four weeks to get some [training] workload into him. He’s been in and out of [Blues] camp ... the decision has been made that his calf is not responding, so we’ll take a long-term view with it.”Mitchell broke down on the Sunday before Origin I, then ruled himself out seven days before Origin II while in NSW camp.
Skipper Cameron Murray felt for Mitchell and knew how much it meant to him to wear the club and state colours. Cook was moved to the centres when Tom Trbojevic’s night ended after three minutes because of a serious pectoral injury. Murray did not see any game time until the final half hour. When asked about Cook and Murray’s performances – and how they were used by the Blues – Demetriou smiled and said: “I don’t know what to say. It’s done us a favour bringing Cam on with 30 minutes to go, that’s for sure.
Demetriou said Cook had already asked for a pay rise now he had shown his versatility playing another position.
