Southland police prepare for traffic snarls as gas giveaway comes to south, southwest suburbs this Thursday

Free fuel will be provided at 11 stations in south and southwest suburbs including Alsip, Dolton, Harvey and Park Forest, starting at 7 a.m. Thursday.

As Willie Wilson's gas giveaway expands to more stations in more communities Thursday, police in the south and southwest suburbs are planning how to deal with expected traffic snarls such as these seen in Chicago.

“It’s certainly a traffic control concern and something which we’re planning for,” Park Forest police Chief Christopher Mannino said Monday. “We are prepared to deal with the problems on the roadway and keep the flow of traffic moving,” Reid said. “It’s kind of the height of the rush hour.” In Park Forest, a Shell station, 385 Sauk Trail, is participating, with Sauk Trail a major thoroughfare.
