Jack Pitt-BrookeGareth Southgate has called on the Wembley crowd to “get behind the team” on Monday night after being booed off by the fans in each of England’s last two games.
While Southgate has tried to take all the responsibility on himself – on Sunday he even said it was “irrelevant” what happens to him – he also admitted it was “not healthy” for all this negativity to be surrounding the players. And he called on those fans going to Monday’s game to give the team a positive send-off.
“Of course it’s not healthy for the team to be having this noise around them, I fully understand that. But it’s for me to take responsibility, it’s for me to allow them to go and play.”
