Visitors enjoy a day at the beach on the sugar white sand of Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama. , though the introduction to the article specifies that the entries are presented “in no particular order.” Now, Southern Living’s tendency to lump Gulf Shores and Orange Beach together is sometimes objectionable, but we’ll give them a pass on this one. It is the same stretch of sugar sand, after all.
South Carolina and Florida dominated with, respectively, six and five of the 15 listings. Picks in Florida include shores in Pensacola and Destin, within easy driving range of Alabama’s lone entry. North Carolina and Georgia rounded things out, meaning Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas all got skunked despite their Gulf of Mexico frontage.
