The district held a question and answer session on Wednesday.
In York County, the South Western School District answered questions about the possibility of moving dozens of students to a different school.The goal of the possible redistricting is to reduce overcrowding in classrooms.
'If we can move students from one place to another to effectively shrink those class sizes because when you have smaller class sizes you have happier teachers because they can manage their classes and you have students that are getting more individualized attention,' school board president Matt Gelazela said.Class sizes at West Manheim Elementary School have grown to an average of 27 to 30 students, but during a question and answer session on Wednesday, parents raised concerns about making changes. 'If we redistrict you know what I think will happen? I think teachers are still going be stressed,' one person said. 'I'm concerned about what the redistribution will have on the other schools. Our teachers at West Manheim are stressed but I also know that the teachers at Park Hills are stressed. And I want to make sure that all of our kids are OK and that all of our teachers and staff are OK,' parent Melissa Graham said.Gelazela said he would like to see one overall outcome: 'Happy teachers and students that are learning in the best environment possible.'The board plans to take a vote on redistricting on June 12.
