The Texas Education Agency conservator Abe Saavedra has recommended that the state replace South San ISD trustees with a board of managers.
A year after being appointed to help a dysfunctional South San Antonio Independent School District board improve itself to avoid being replaced by a state-appointed board of managers, conservator Abe Saavedra has made his recommendation: Bring on the takeover. In a letter to Texas Education Commission er Mike Morath early Thursday, the former South San ISD superintendent said the board has made minimal progress and has not proven its ability to run the district.
South San ISD leader ejected clown protesters so meeting wouldn’t be a circus. It was too late. Saavedra acknowledged that local media outlets have captured the board’s inability to maintain proper decorum during board meetings throughout the past year. He referenced a September 2023 meeting at which Lopez, the board president, called trustee Abel “Chillidogg” Martinez Jr.
