South San’s Julian Hernandez Celebrates stealing a base during the third inning of Friday’s district 5A-28 baseball game against McCollum at Tejeda Sports ComplexMarcus Estrada’s hustling infield single drove in the game winning RBI as the South San Bobcats rallied to beat the MacArthur Brahmas, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in eight innings, winning the Class 5A bi-district playoff series at Burrows-Gustafson Stadium.
With the game winning hit, Estrada was able to put behind a base running mistake he made earlier in the game had cost South San a run. That came in the fifth inning, when Estrada was ruled out after not tagging up before coming home on a sacrifice fly. At the time, MacArthur led 3-1. South San coach Robert Zamora Jr. said the Bobcats showed the perseverance in the bid-district playoff series they have displayed throughout the season.
MacArthur went up 1-0 in the first inning when Zayne Lessman got on base on an error, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single by Logan Ledesma, and scored when he stole home on a double steal attempt.
