When a former high-ranking South Salt Lake Police officer crashed his motorcycle while speeding and intoxicated behind the wheel last year, he was allowed to re
tire from the police department without any consequences.
The police chief at the time was Jack Carruth and the deputy chief, Darren Carr, both went to the hospital following Lt. Jimmie Anderson’s crash with Carr conducting the internal affairs investigation.. Anderson was ultimately convicted of DUI, ordered to serve five days in jail and was placed on supervised probation for 18 months with random urine testing.
This summer the Peace Officer Standards in Training Board suspended his peace officer certification for two years citing an aggravating factor that he was more than three times over the legal limit. Despite this suspension which means he cannot work in law enforcement in Utah – he has filed a petition with the same judge who sentenced him to terminate his probation early even though he hasn’t reached the one-year mark.
