The news comes just hours ahead of the airing of Episode 5 on Wednesday night on Comedy Central. Known for its very tight turnaround to keep up with current events, the adult animated comedy series will instead return next week on September 24 before a short two-week break. Afterward, the rest of the season will continue airing every other week from October 15 through December 10 in the usual 10 p.m. time slot. According to an official statement from the co-creators, they simply ran out of time to finish production on the latest installment before the premiere."Apparently, when you do everything at the last minute, sometimes you don’t get it done,” they shared. “This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!” Thus far, Parker and Stone have used the bi-weekly schedule to remain at the pulse of political happenings throughout Season 27, going after President Donald Trump, JD Vance, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE, and more, all while drawing the ire of the White House. In the most recent episode, Butters had to face the harsh reality of the recently implemented tariffs when he tried to buy a Labubu doll as a gift for his girlfriend. This isn't the first time South Park has seen delays thanks to its hectic production. Seasons 3 and 4 both saw episodes pushed back, whether it be because of a power outage at South Park Studios or an especially complicated installment that required more time to construct. Season 27 as a whole was also briefly pushed back due to the Paramount-Skydance merger going on in the background. Episode 5, specifically, though, faces another challenge entirely, coming in the aftermath of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which has earned the show a renewed round of backlash. In the wake of his death, Comedy Central pulled the season's second episode,"Got a Nut?" which mocked Kirk and his beliefs through Cartman, though it's still available to stream through Paramount+.
