South Dakota GovKristiNoem says Trump is not GOP's 'best chance' for 2024
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has reservations surrounding former President Donald Trump's 2024 presidential bid, stating that he is probably not the GOP's"best chance" at securing a win.
Noem, who easily won reelection with 62% of the vote against Democratic challenger Jamie Smith, said choosing Trump as the nominee would limit the Republican Party's reach."If we narrow our focus there, then we’re not talking to every single American," Noem told the New York Times while in Florida for a meeting of the Republican Governor's Association."Our job is not just to talk to people who love Trump or hate Trump. Our job is to talk to every single American.
This deviates from previous statements that she has made prior to the midterm elections and Trump's bid, emphasizing that if Trump were to run again, she would support him. She also has caused speculation surrounding her potentially being selected as Trump's running mate, which she said would shock her if it were true.
She has piqued curiosity about federal ambitions since she entered the spotlight. However, she had told reporters that if she was reelected, she planned to serve all four years.Trump has been a vocal supporter of Noem, even providing an 85-second clip for her campaign rally the day before Election Day, per the Des Moines Register.
“Kristi Noem has been a fantastic governor for the state of South Dakota,” Trump had said. “Kristi Noem is one of the best governors in the country. We have to reelect her by a big margin. She’ll only get better.”
