to former Vice President Joe Biden ahead of the South Carolina race. In a CNN interview Saturday, he said he was hoping for a Biden surge in the state that would jump-start fundraising ahead of Super Tuesday -- and give Mr. Biden a chance to reinvigorate his campaign.
"If we are successful tonight in this campaign," Mr. Clyburn said, "I would think we will have to sit down and get serious about how we retool the campaign, retool the fundraising" as well as the get-out-the-vote efforts. "I'm not going to sit idly by, and watch people mishandle his campaign," he said.
"I tell South Carolinians, to reset this campaign, let's create this surge, let's relaunch on Tuesday, because I think you'll see a massive difference in the campaign efforts." The state is critical for Mr. Biden, who needs a win following poor showings in Iowa and New Hampshire and a second-place finish in Nevada.In the 2016 South Carolina Democratic primary, the Associated Press and television networks called the race for Hillary Clinton at 7 p.m., just as polls closed, andStill, results should come in quickly. Four years ago, about half of the precincts had reported results by 8:30 p.m. ET, and nearly all results were in by 9 p.m.
