South Australia Police has launched a new advertising campaign in a bid to reduce the number of crashes caused by drink drivers every year.
The graphic advertisements are inspired by the excuses often given by those caught driving under the influence.
Last year, drunk drivers caused 100 serious injuries and killed 19 people in South Australia. Men aged between 20 and 39 were the most likely to be caught under the influence. The state government says the campaign's largely funded using revenue raised from other drivers doing the wrong thing. "For example road safety cameras... is put into our community road safety fund, and there are a whole lot of road safety campaigns where you see that rolling out," Police Minister Dan Cregan said.
In addition to the campaign, police have announced increased traffic patrols ahead of the upcoming long weekend.
