The figures, though disastrous for region, are dwarfed by the 96,000 deaths suffered so far in the United States, which has registered 1.6 million infections. "We are not guided by politics in this – we are guided by science, we are guided by collaboration," said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
