MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama defeated Louisiana-Monroe 52-35, improving to 1-0 in conference play. On the second play of the game, quarterback Jared Hollins threw a 72-yard touchdown pass to Brendan Jenkins.
South Alabama followed with a scoop-and-score from Masey Lewis to take a 14-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. In his third start, Hollins finished with 321 yards passing and three touchdowns.
“He did extremely well and there’s some plays that weren’t so well called and there was some ad lib that went on and he made good decisions with the football,” head coach Major Applewhite said. “We had a situation late in the ball game and we just continue to learn and grow and stay humble as a play caller and a quarterback. ” “Obviously hitting our shots is a big thing,” Hollins said.
“Something that we haven’t finished well at in the past, capitalizing on those opportunities and we just have to continue to get better and we can’t get complacent. ” Eager has career game Wide receiver Anthony Eager, a McGill-Toolen graduate, had four catches for a career-high 168 yards and two second-half touchdowns.

“One of our goals is to be undefeated at home and if we can do that in this league it’ll put you in position to be in contention for your side of the league and possibly in the championship,” Applewhite said. South Alabama will play at Arkansas State on Thursday.
