South Alabama will play the 2022 football season without one of its most-experienced and respected defensive players.

|South Alabama safety Keith Gallmon will sit out the 2022 season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered in a scrimmage last week.

Gallmon will still wear the No. 5 on the sideline during the Nicholls game and will serve as a student coach this season, Wommack said. Gallmon has not yet used a redshirt year, so he will be eligible to return for a sixth season with the Jaguars in 2023. C.J. Thompson, the Jaguars’ first-team Rover safety, was set to start alongside Gallmon in the secondary this season. Instead, South Alabama has lost one of the stalwarts of its defense.
