Hornets guard Desmond Williams signs with Jaguars
Published: Nov. 15, 2024, 11:03 a.m.South Alabama men’s basketball has added two high school prospects in the Class of 2025 early signing period, which began Wednesday.
Baker guard Desmond Williams and Windermere Prep guard Samuel Shoptaw have both signed with the Jaguars. Shoptaw signed Thursday, with Williams putting pen to paper Friday morning. Williams, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, averaged 14.3 points and 3.2 assists per game as a junior for the Hornets in 2023-24. Baker is 4-1 this season heading into a home game Tuesday night vs. Mobile rival Williamson.Shoptaw, a 6-2 point guard, averaged 9.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and six assists as a junior at Windermere in 2023-24. His team went 24-8 and reached FHSAA Class 3A championship game last season.Williams and Shoptaw are expected to be South Alabama’s only signees in the early period.
