The South African rand was slightly weaker in early trade on Monday, with this week's major focus local inflation data out on Wednesday and an interest rate announcement on Thursday.
At 0640 GMT, the rand traded at 18.1025 against the dollar , about 0.1% weaker than its previous close.
The rand gained around 4% against the U.S. currency last week, bolstered by bets that the U.S. Federal Reserve will increase interest ratesThe rand was at one stage on track for even larger gains, butas traders booked some profits and as prolonged power blackouts weighed on the investor mood.
