On Monday, highly-rated winger Kobamelo Kodisang made his long-awaited debut for SC Braga when he featured as a 75th-minute substitute in the club's 0-0 Primeira Liga draw against Estoril.In doing so, the 22-year-old South Africa youth international followed in the footsteps of some of the country's famous exports, including none other than Bafana Bafana's record goalscorer, Benni McCarthy.

The prolific striker was also part of the Porto side that went on to win the 2004 UEFA Champions League crown and also claimed winner's medals in the Fellow former Bafana star Eric Tinkler also called the league home during a spell with Vitória Guimarães, which was also recently the employer of the current generation's Bongani Zungu and Lyle Foster .

Luther Singh, now of Danish side FC Copenhagen, also previously starred in the Primeira Liga where he represented Chaves, Moreirense and Paços de Ferreira, all on loan while contracted to Braga.Gil Vicente, and Calvin Kadi represented Portimonense. Apart from Kodisang, the league also presently boasts two more South Africans among its ranks, with Bafana Bafana defender Thibang Phete and countryman Sphephelo Sithole both starring for Belenenses these days. South African-born David Júlio famously represented Sporting Lisbon during the 1950s and 1960s and went on to represent the Portuguese national team on four occasions.
