Soundcore's new Liberty 5 Pro and Pro Max earbuds prioritize call clarity and effective noise cancellation. Our review finds the standard Pro model offers the best value with a useful touchscreen case, superb ANC, and excellent voice pickup for calls on the go.
Soundcore, the sub-brand under Anker known for delivering solid audio performance at accessible prices, has launched two new models in its Liberty lineup: the Liberty 5 Pro and the Liberty 5 Pro Max.
These true wireless earbuds represent a significant step forward in the company's effort to compete with premium offerings, especially when it comes to call clarity and active noise cancellation. After extensive testing in both quiet and noisy environments, it is clear that Soundcore has made crystal-clear communications a central pillar of the Liberty 5 series' appeal. The earbuds themselves are identical across both models; the key differences lie in the charging case.
The standard Liberty 5 Pro comes with a compact case featuring a one-inch touchscreen, whereas the Pro Max boasts a larger 1.78-inch AMOLED display with customizable wallpapers and a built-in microphone that functions as an AI note-taker. This added screen real estate and functionality make the Pro Max case substantially bigger and more expensive.
For most users, the base Liberty 5 Pro offers better value, as the touchscreen on the smaller case proved surprisingly useful for quick adjustments to noise-cancellation levels, battery checks, and EQ presets without having to pull out a phone. The earbuds have a bean-shaped design with silicone stability wings, available in four colors for the Pro and two for the Pro Max.
They are not the most minimalist on the market, but the wings ensure a secure and comfortable fit for all-day wear and light physical activities. Controls on the buds are comprehensive, with swipe-based volume adjustment and highly customizable tap controls that can be set independently for the left and right earpiece via the companion app.
Battery life is rated at 6.5 hours on a single charge with up to 28 hours total using the case, and both cases support wireless charging. Sound quality is strong with a bass-forward signature that can be tailored through the app or directly from the Pro Max's touchscreen. The Liberty 5 Pro also supports Dolby Atmos with head-tracking, though its effectiveness depends on the content. The standout feature, however, is the active noise cancellation.
It ranks among the best in its price class, effectively muting low-frequency hums like HVAC systems and higher-frequency human speech. The transparency mode is also natural and reliable. During call tests, voice clarity was exceptional. In a quiet room, my voice sounded natural.
On a windy, busy street, while a slight processed tone and some sibilance were noticeable, every word remained intelligible and background noises like wind and traffic were almost entirely eliminated from the recording. For anyone who takes frequent calls in varied environments, this performance is top-tier.
In conclusion, the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro delivers where it matters most: superior call quality, impressive active noise cancellation, and enjoyable sound. The smaller touchscreen case adds practical utility beyond a gimmick. Unless the AI note-taking and large display of the Pro Max are must-haves, the standard Liberty 5 Pro is the recommended choice for a well-rounded, high-performance true wireless experience at a competitive price point
