“I heard that the President will have a very important meeting or talk…this evening. I expect him to say that. I expect him to relieve some people,” Sotto told reporters in a web conference on Monday afternoon.
“Lahat nung mga na-involved sa anomalya. Lahat ng may ‘whiff of corruption’ na nabanggit,”Sotto was referencing Duterte’s statement earlier that he would fire and prosecute any official who gives off even"a whiff of corruption."
The Senate held a first hearing as part of its probe into alleged rampant corruption in PhilHealth on August 4. In it, Morales and the rest of the PhilHealth executive committee faced questions about irregularities involving billions of pesos in public funds under their watch.A second hearing is set for Tuesday, August 11. Sotto and Senator Panfilo Lacson said resource persons and witnesses not in the first hearing would be presenting new allegations of corruption.
Sotto chided Morales for earlier saying he regretted that his “privacy was not respected” when his illness was disclosed to the public on Saturday, August 8, after his medical certificate submitted to the Senate was leaked to reporters. Duque, as health chief, is the chairperson of PhilHealth. He attended the web conference in which an alleged “shouting match” happened among the state insurer’s officials over accusations of corruption, Sotto said.“Yes, he’s definitely silent….
