Sotomayor Wildcats wide receiver Darrell Bacon balances football with marching band
As the first half clock winds down, Sotomayor wide receiver Darrell Bacon doesn’t run into the locker room with his teammates. Instead, Bacon walks over to the Wildcat marching band front ensemble to make sure his drum set is good to go for the halftime performance. While students participating in band and athletics isn’t uncommon, Bacon’s routine of having a marching band performance sandwiched in between a football game makes his participation in both a little more challenging.
Sotomayor earns program’s first playoff bid after win over Warren “He comes in and just knows exactly how to get back in,” Sotomayor percussion director April Lara said. “And that’s just because of the amount of time and effort that he’s put into music before. He’s just at that skill level that he can come and do both very well…he’s always been athletic and musical.
