Former WHL player Kyrell Sopotyk, who was paralyzed in a 2021 snowboarding accident, won a Canada Summer Games bronze medal on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Sopotyk, from Aberdeen, won a bronze medal for Saskatchewan in Wednesday’s male 1,500-metre wheelchair race at the Canada Summer Games in St. Catharines, Ont.
Undaunted, he soon took up wheelchair sports and joined the Saskatoon-based Cyclones Track and Field Club, for para athletes. He is also an accomplished wheelchair basketball player.
