The BCN Awards data reveals Sony's dominance in the Japanese camera market, while highlighting a 50% decline in mirrorless camera sales.

The BCN Awards, while concentrating solely on the Japan ese market and representing only 40-60% of annual sales within that region, offer valuable insights into the relative performance of various camera manufacturers. BCN's data collection spans a broader range of consumer retailers in Japan , which might not always accurately reflect the purchasing behavior of high-end professionals. However, professionals constitute a relatively small percentage of overall photography purchases.

Sony has solidified its position as the leading camera manufacturer in Japan, capturing 35.8% of the market share. This represents an increase from 34% in the previous year. Canon, the long-time contender, held onto the second position but saw a decline from 28.3% to 26% market share. Nikon edged out OM System to claim the third spot with 14.5% of the market, compared to OM System's 12.5% share in the previous year. Over the past five years, Sony has dominated the BCN Awards, securing the top spot four times. Canon's lone victory occurred in 2024, when they held a 31.7% market share, while Sony trailed at 29.4%. In the realm of DSLR cameras, Canon maintains its supremacy. They secured the first position with a 69.4% market share, a slight dip from 77.1% in the 2024 BCN Awards and 76.8% the year before. Nikon, as it has consistently done since 2012, finished second to Canon with 20.9% market share, a modest increase from the past two years. Ricoh Imaging, a manufacturer that continues to produce DSLR cameras, secured the third position, a feat they have achieved annually since 2014. The BCN Awards also shed light on the lens market. In 2025, Tamron emerged as the leading lens manufacturer with a 17.5% market share, while Sigma (16.8%) and Sony (15%) took second and third place respectively. While Sony maintained its third-place position from the previous year, Tamron and Sigma swapped positions this time around. Finally, the BCN Awards revealed a notable trend: mirrorless camera sales experienced a significant 50% drop in March
