Former All Black Sonny Bill Williams has taken aim at Wallabies coach Eddie Jones for arranging a meeting with Japanese Rugby officials days out from Australia’s dismal Rugby World Cup campaign.
“I came back to Australia to try to help. At the moment I’m not giving much help, am I? But that doesn’t mean my commitment to helping has changed. I’m a proud Australian, and I hate to see Australian rugby do as poorly as we have been doing, particularly under my reign.
“At the moment, we have an inability to do that. We put together phases of play that are good but the players, because they’re young, they tend not to stick at it. It’s not because they don’t care but our effort just drops off a little bit. “A lot is going to come on Eddie, and maybe there’s some fairness in that, but I’ve been in the camp. No-one is up for more hours than Eddie. Eddie is up until 11pm thinking about how to make the Wallabies team better, and he’s waking up at 3am answering messages,” he said on Stan Sport.
Several Wallabies players were in tears at the final whistle and later apologised to the Australian fans.
