Will Jennings, song writer for acts like Eric Clapton. Steve Winwood and more, has died at age 80. Will Jennings, the veteran songwriter responsible for hits like Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven” and Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love,” died Friday. He was 80.by his agent Sam Schwartz. Jennings died at his home in Texas but a cause of death has not been revealed.

Some of Jennings’ other charting work includes the 1982 classic “Valerie” which peaked after Tom Lord-Alge remixed the song in 1987.Jennings was also responsible for the lyrics for “Up Where We Belong,” and Celine Dion’s top-selling 1998 “My Heart Will Go On” from the film “Titanic.”
