Dealing with a bomb, Spock and Lore speculate that its power source itself could be sentient. Later, Lore muses that the power source could in fact be "more than sentient" – it could be "nearly omniscient." Lore Has A Quasi-Religious Experience In Defiant #5 Star Trek has had incredibly powerful machine intelligences before – when Lore calls what they're encountering "entirely theoretical," Spock replies, "almost," recommending that Lore read up on V'Ger. However, the idea of a living power source feels novel, at least for the Trek franchise.
