Someone with a fake ID walked into a Mechanicsburg bank and stole $9k from man’s bank account

On Sunday, Craig Himmel Jr., of Mechanicsburg, received an alert from PNC Bank notifying him that the password to his online account had been changed.

Mechanicsburg Police on Friday confirmed that the theft was under investigation. Police said they could not give out any additional information. “It’s scary for me to think I put my money into a bank and somebody walks in and takes all of it,” Himmel said Friday struggling to find words to express his outrage. “Anyone with a PNC account knows that security there is not working. Their whole system was breached. Somebody walked in with a fake ID and they missed it and handed somebody $9,000 in cash.”“Something happened at the branch they are not telling me about and they are trying to cover their tracks.

Himmel, who travels quite bit for work, said he has been banking with PNC Bank for eight years. He direct deposits his income to that account and pays all his bills automatically from it. PennLive reached out the the Attorney General’s office for comment, and will update this report with any information.and fraudulent banking, including an 84% increase in check fraud in 2022, according to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, a unit of the U.S. Treasury Department.
