A friend of the couple has created a GoFundMe page to help the Romans replace the damaged lights.
A Jersey City Christmas lights display that has been recognized as one of the most dazzling in Hudson County was vandalized for the second time in less than a week, the homeowners say.that multiple strings of lights at 413-415 New York Ave. had been cut,
Edward Roman said the second incident has spurred the couple to purchase surveillance cameras to deter any future damage. The couple filed a second police report, but they said the police told them there isn’t much they can do unless they catch the vandals in the act. “Edward and his husband are very disheartened, but they are still keeping up their Christmas spirit,” the organizer, Marlena Fraginals, said on the donation page. “I want to help them keep that spirit up so they can continue to spread joy this Christmas season. If anyone can help just a little, we can show this Grinch he is not going to ruin Christmas this year.”
If the goal of the vandal is to destroy the Christmas spirit the display fosters, the incidents are having the opposite effect.
