Montgomery, Alabama
A group including supply chain partner C&S Wholesale Grocers and private investors led by Southeastern Grocers CEO and President Anthony Hucker are buying 170 stores back from Aldi. The purchase involves Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s grocery stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida as well as Winn-Dixie liquor stores.
Aldi had bought Southeastern Grocers last year to expand its footprint in the southeast. Aldi is in the process of converting some Winn-Dixie stores to the Aldi brand, such as the Auburn store in our area. Aldi is keeping about 220 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s stores and still plans to convert those stores to Aldi locations by 2027. The group that is purchasing the 170 stores will immediately take over day-to-day operations, with Hucker serving as Chairman, CEO and President. The group says that there will opportunities for reinvestment in Winn-Dixie stores and growth. “As we reinvest in the store fleet, we are inspired by listening loudly to the voices of our customers, to elevate and revolutionize our customer experience and store offerings, so that each step we take will reflect our dedication to our people and our communities,” Hucker said.
