However, other stores and buildings remained boarded up, with one business telling WJLA the boards were likely to stay up for about a week, and another saying they may stay up quite a while. Although feared violence related to the results of Tuesday’s election has not materialized, there are still concerns about the inauguration ofInaugurations often draw protests, and in the past, such protests have turned violent at times. Although many peaceful protesters marched through downtown D.C.
For the election this week, the Metropolitan Police Department has dramatically increased its presence on the streets, having officers work 12-hour shifts. Late Wednesday afternoon an MPD spokesperson said their security “posture” had not yet been lowered. Washington mayor Muriel Bowser also put out a statement Wednesday saying the city would actively support Trump’s inauguration and the transition process.
