Fans of the classic movie 'Some Like It Hot' will notice these differences in the musical version.

Actress Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis during a scene from the movie "Some Like it Hot" in Los Angeles, California. is now playing at the Connor Palace in Playhouse Square through November 24. The Tony Award-winning musical is based on the 1959 movie of the same name that starred Marilyn Monroe and is considered by many as one of the greatest movies of all time., full of dazzling musical numbers, big laughs and a heartwarming message.

The musical also touches on the racial dynamics of the 1930s — something the movie ignored — even if those efforts feel a bit undercooked. The most impactful change, however, is in Osgood’s character. Played on screen by Joe E. Brown, Osgood is a creepy old millionaire who Jerry/Daphne only agrees to marry so that he could score a big divorce settlement once he admits to being a man. In the musical, he’s given a poignant backstory.

Additionally, the second act moves the story to San Diego instead of Miami, allowing the iconic Hotel Del Coronado to play itself rather than standing in for the fictional Seminole Ritz Hotel, as in the movie. And in a minor tweak, Spats Columbo, the mobster, and Mulligan, the detective, follow Joe and Jerry to California instead of coincidentally running into them in Florida. The film featured a couple of memorable performances by Monroe in “I Wanna Loved By You” and “I’m Through With Love.
