Presidents of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation and Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas offer practical ways to support Jewish and Israeli neighbors as...

Supporters of Israel hold Israel flags during a community solidarity gathering for Israel at Temple Emanu-El, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, in Dallas. Philanthropists, politicians, humanitarians and, most importantly, our greater Dallas community members, have been holding a flame of hope for us, sending their words of compassion and concern and sharing their philanthropic resources with us, write Megan Hyman and Igor Alterman.

In the past few days in Dallas, there have been many moments that brought us a little light. From the literal lights of the iconic Dallas skyline lit up in the Israeli flag’s colors, to figurative light — the immediate outpouring of communal support from our peer community leaders across North Texas, and the Dallas City Council’s resolution, which passed unanimously, to condemn Hamas and stand with Israel.Over 3,000 people gathered in solidarity last Tuesday at Temple Emanu-El.

#LightForIsrael is a movement inspired by the weekly Jewish tradition of lighting candles on Friday evenings as Shabbat begins. We invite people of all faiths to join Jews around the world in an act of spiritual solidarity by lighting candles this Friday. Please share your pictures using the #LightForIsrael hashtag on social media to spread this virtual light around the world.
