The defensively challenged Rockets are fresh off the worst back-to-back defensive games...
Those two games are the worst back-to-back defensive games in franchise history.
Only one other time since moving from Houston to San Diego have the Rockets allowed 140 or more points in consecutive games. That was in 1973, the team’s second year here, when they gave up 141 to Portland and Golden State on back-to-back nights. That was so long ago that the team played 13 “home” games in San Antonio, and Calvin Murphy had yet to buy his first sequined suit.Seven of those 17 times have been under Silas’ watch, and, as you would figure, all were losses. We’re talking in the past three weeks. You could use a Rockets cut-up to make a documentary on how not to play defense.
Fortunately , the Rockets have a quick opportunity to get some redemption, as they face the Kings again on Wednesday. Three of Sacramento’s seven highest-scoring games this season have come in wins against Houston, and the Kings have averaged 138 points in those contests.
