Then, there is an afternoon of golf at Hearthstone Country Club, where the 73-year-old and her friends gather several times a week.OK, that’s an exaggeration. Yim doesn’t make a hole-in-one every day, or even on most days. No one does. Less than a year after taking her first swing with a golf club at Bear Creek, Yim found herself on the No. 1 tee for the start of a tournament in Laredo, after taking a long bus ride with a Korean amateur golf group.
Yim has won so much that when she recently moved in with her daughter, there wasn’t enough room to stow all of her plaques, cups and other awards. Six years later, in 1980, she opened her own salon,"Sun’s Beauty Salon" on Gessner, bringing with her a dedicated customer base that she’d built through the years.So how does a hairdresser’s story become a golf tale? A mother of three, who had never even picked up a golf club?Yim’s husband left her when the youngest of their children was 9. Yim was hurt, upset, angry.
