A lone hiker in Snohomish County was rescued overnight after falling off a cliff and into Lake Serene in the Cascades late Sunday.

After the accident, the hiker activated a personal locator beacon to alert rescuers. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said at that time, the hiker was hypothermic. Lake Serene is considered a high lake at an elevation of 2,525 feet and sits under the walls of Mount Index, according to theAround 10 pm., the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office notified a U.S. Navy search and rescue team from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island that a hiker had fallen off a cliff and into Lake Serene.SCSO told KOMO News the hiker had fallen about 100 feet, but the Navy later said the 30-year-old man reportedly fell about 60 feet and ended up in the north end of the lake.

The Navy SAR team launched from NASWI, arrived about midnight, quickly found the hiker, and pulled him out of the lake, according to the Navy. The SAR crew transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The hiker had hypothermia and other injuries.
