James Paterson said the installation of foreign-made solar panels is increasing the risk of a targeted attacks against Australia's electricity grid, which could lead to widespread blackouts and 'completely destabilise' the nation's energy supply.

Speaking to Sky News Australia's Peta Credlin on Monday, James Paterson said that 58 per cent of internet connected solar inverters installed in Australia came from companies headquartered in China.

Labor must act to assess the risks involved with using foreign-made solar technology to ensure Australia's power grid is fully protected against targeted cyber attacks, says shadow home affairs minister James Paterson. “But...if enough of them are connected to the grid, and the Labor Party is rushing them into the grid right now, they could be used to destabilise our entire electricity grid and put it out of power, completely destabilising our whole country or whole regions of our country.

“A modern electric vehicle is a computer on wheels, it’s also an internet connected device, many are made in China, some of them by Chinese owned companies," Mr Paterson said.
