Economies are still in a fragile state, but CIOs are already using cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other tech to ready businesses for a rebound
Prominent Silicon Valley VC Marc Andreessen coined the phrase “software is eating the world” to emphasize how digital insurgents have transformed industry after industry. After the past year’s events, perhaps it’s time to rephrase that to “software is saving the world.”
“In many cases, [the pandemic] has allowed top tech leaders to flex their muscles and show what they are capable of doing,” said Eric Sigurdson of executive search firm Russell Reynolds. “Industry by industry [they] got an opportunity to accelerate their technology plans.” Various studies have shown that several years’ worth of digital adoption based on pre-crisis trends were compressed into a few months last year as Covid-19 spread.
More timely and accurate data can fuel better digital experiences for customers, which in turn should help reignite growth. The best CIOs are systems thinkers who can see how all of this fits together.
