The government has received thousands of applications from people in the Philippines looking to work in Saskatchewan.
Like Zambory, CUPE Local 5430 president Bashir Jalloh said the provincial government needs to pay some more attention to the needs of current staff.
Jalloh said the new incentives offered by the government — some being as much as $50,000 in compensation over three years — are only offered to new hires outside the Saskatchewan Health Authority. He said many newcomers will largely choose cities because they are more familiar and have diverse communities.
Zambory said incentives for current staff should be looked at, but she also wants the government to address the root cause of the staffing challenge.
