Hospitality workers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles have reached a new collective bargaining agreement with their employer, Legends Global, just before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The contract includes groundbreaking protections against immigration raids, significant wage increases, and other benefits, averting a threatened strike.

The employees, represented by Unite Here Local 11, have been advocating for protections against immigration enforcement during matches. The union, which threatened to strike prior to the tournament, secured a new collective bargaining agreement that includes a provision allowing workers to strike in the event of an immigration raid at work-a first in the country. The pins, worn under the agreement, symbolize the workers' demand for a World Cup that is safe and welcoming for all.
Union co-president Kurt Petersen emphasized that the First Amendment rights of workers extend to their union activities, and the response from fans has been largely supportive. The contract also delivers significant wage increases, with cooks projected to earn up to $40 an hour within two years, and includes protections against subcontracting and a contribution toward housing for hospitality workers.
The deal averted a potential strike that could have disrupted the high-profile event, and both the union and the stadium's food service provider, Legends Global, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. Eight matches are scheduled for SoFi Stadium, which seats 70,000 and is home to the NFL's Rams and Chargers. The agreement lasts through April 2028, just before the Los Angeles Olympic Games, and sets a new standard for hospitality worker contracts in the sports industry
