In one week, recipients will receive the first of March's double Supplemental Security Income payments, according to the Social Security Administration's schedule.
The first round of payments will be sent out on March 1 and will be worth $914 for individuals. Recipients will receive a second payment of the same amount later in the month, on March 31, for a monthly total of $1,828.Eligible couples will also receive two payments on March 1 and 31, but their payments will be worth $1,371 each. Essential persons, meaning those who live with and provide necessary care to those on SSI, will receive two payments of $458 in March, according to the SSA.
The SSA normally only gives out one check each month. But in the months when a payment falls on a weekend or holiday, recipients receive two checks the month prior. Giving people two checks in a month means that the administration will not give that recipient one the following month. But it ensures that recipients still receive 12 checks a year.
Double payments this year will also occur in June, September, and December. This is because the first of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday in July, October, and January 2024.The Social Security Administration, which issued its first payment in 1974, changes the check amount every year to keep up with the cost of living and inflation.
