EXCLUSIVE: Gavin Newlands has called for major broadcasters to meet with fan groups and the Scottish Government to thrash out a deal.
An SNP MP has called for a meeting with major broadcasters to put Scotland national team games on free-to-air TV.
Newlands has called for major broadcasters STV, BBC, Sky, BT, Viaplay and Channel 4 to meet with the Scottish Football Association, Scottish Football Supporters Association and ministers from the UK and Scottish Governments to discuss how Scotland games can be brought to free-to-air channels. “During a cost-of-living crisis Scotland fans will be expected to fork out at least an extra £250 a year just to watch Steve Clarke’s side.
The SFA announced in April that all matches involving the men's national side will be screened exclusively by a little-known Nordic broadcaster Viaplay from 2024 to 2028. Newlands said he has already spoken to broadcasters and has called for a proper meeting to develop a strategy.
